Spring 2021 is upon us. In fact, it feels more like summer with our recent days of sunshine. It also appears we are finally moving forward, shedding our masks, and re-entering the world.
Unfortunately, a number of the women and children we serve did not through the year unscathed. Along with COVID came an influx of women caught in domestic violence situations seeking services. These women and their children, some women pregnant as well, reached out to us, struggling to find resources and support for themselves and their little ones in the midst of a pandemic.
Add loss of income for these families, along with the increased violence, and the women were left reeling, struggling to escape danger without the necessary funds. We have been honored to help these wounded warriors, and warriors they are, find healing and hope while embracing fresh starts.
Escape from Domestic Violence: One Woman’s Story
“When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I would not get through it alone. So, I worked on renewing my relationship with Christ. I had to move out of my apartment because my roommates were using drugs.
My boyfriend was abusive, and I did not want myself or my child in that environment. He said he would find me, so I am not giving my name or my child’s name.
I moved into another apartment but lost my job and could not afford to pay for it. I heard there were homes out there for expectant mothers, and since I did not have family that could take me in, I knew that was a possible option for my child and me. I heard about Bethany House from my friends and decided to give them a call. I was looking for a Christian home that would help me in my relationship with Christ, and Bethany House was the best I found.
Beth placed me quickly into a Sponsor Family and was welcomed into the family. When I arrived, there were flowers and a card on my dresser. After seeing the flowers and reading the card I was convinced this was the place I was supposed to be.
I got back into doing devotions and studies with my S/F since we could not attend church. I had a lot of issues so everyday there was firm but loving guidance. I have become a more mature adult and am stronger, making good choices for my child and myself. My daughter was born on January 3rd. With all I have learned from Beth and my Sponsor Family I know I will be a good mother. I thank God everyday for bringing me to Bethany House and giving me a second chance.
I have made lifelong friends and will never forget these special people. Thank You! I now have a job and an apartment and my future looks great.”
